How do I know my drive is not seen in the computer CMOS/ BIOS

Once you reboot your computer, you should see a screen like this. Push the Pause/Break key to "freeze" the screen.

boot screen

Note 1: If you do NOT see a screen similar to the one above, check your computer or motherboard manual to find out how to access BIOS setup. Normally, “Del” or “F1” key needs to be pressed right after the computer start up in order to access BIOS setup screen. Once you are in the BIOS setup, please check the manual in how to activate the BIOS screen during computer start up.

Compare the BIOS model number to the number on your drive label. Should these numbers be different, you have a problem with the hard drive.

To find out the data recovery cost for your failed hard drive, please check Flat Rate Recovery Table

Note 2: Some failed hard drives may pass to computer's CMOS/BIOS screen some internal techno-name. You should verify the name on the screen with the true model number on the label of the failed hard drive.

The table below demonstrates how it works for Maxtor hard disk drives

EXAMPLE: True and false Maxtor HDD names in CMOS/BIOS

True Drive Name in BIOS (as on lable)

False name in BIOS (drive repair needed)

Maxtor 6E040L0510253 40 GB

From Customer's order

Drive is failed in OS. Drive was loading latest Anti-Virus software and on reboot did not complete booting. Would not be recognized as having a system. BIOS recognizes the drive; however when slaved to another machine Windows does not recognize it. R-Studio was run with minimal recovery of data. Drive was never opened. Drive has original parts. No firmware recovery attempts. Maxtor Powermax was run with result of drive going bad.

After recovery:

I like the flat rate approach, no surprises at all. I was really worried about the data and the thought I lost it all made me feel awful. The recovery was fast and everyone I dealt with at your company did their best to make the process is painless as possible. Thank you, thank you and thank you...
James
