Do not try similar electronic boards on failed drive with data

Even if you know for sure that the hard-drive's electronics have failed, we advise you - for the data safety sake - to avoid any attempts with reviving the drive by installing a working printed circuit board from the spare hard drive. No matter how identical you think it looks like compare the original one - swapping the boards is a huge no-no situation. The failed drive with the new board on may start rotating the motor, but most likely that would be it, no access to user data can be gained with this approach.

In some combinations of certain drive's models with donor's PCB, that swapping will lead to data rendering and mechanical damage to the disk platters due to chaotic heads jerking (accompany with loud clicking sound). Read more about PCB incapability with failed hard drive »
